The flag of Pakistan was designed by Muhammad Ali Jinnah. It consists of a dark green field bearing a white crescent with a five-pointed star and a white stripe across the front. The flag, with proportions of 2:3, was adopted on August 14, 1947. The flag of the Muslim League, active in India since 1906, was a combination of the symbols of Islam - the green of the Prophet Muhammad and a white crescent with a star. After the separation of Pakistan from India, a white vertical stripe was added to symbolize the religious minorities in the country. The green field and white stripe depict the Muslim community and minorities in appropriate proportions. While the crescent moon is a symbol of development and the star is a symbol of wisdom and knowledge.
